7 Things You Can Use Olive Oil for

Olive oil is a staple ingredient in any kitchen, no matter if it’s in a domestic or commercial setting. But there’s so much more to olive oil than just frying and sauteing. In fact, there’s a lot that you can use olive oil for, whether extra virgin or otherwise, in order to elevate your dishes and meals at home.

No kitchen can do without a good supply of olive oil, which is something that we, here at Cater Oils, can supply you. We are able to deliver a fresh supply of olive oil for your premises, whilst also picking up your waste cooking oil in the process.

We will carry out a waste cooking oil collection service that is second-to-none, turning it into biodiesel for use throughout the community. But you’ll need a replacement for all of the cooking oil you’re using, and we’re here to tell you how else you can use olive oil in your cooking:

1. As a salad dressing

One of the most common uses for olive oil is for drizzling over a salad. No matter the ingredients that are in your salad, from strawberries and pomegranate seeds to radishes and lemon juice, olive oil can’t be left out. It adds flavour and taste that is second-to-none.

It simply can’t be achieved through the use of a shop-bought salad dressing. However, don’t just settle for oil on its own. Whip up your own olive oil salad dressing by throwing olive oil together with the following additional ingredients:

  • Red wine vinegar
  • Lemon juice
  • Shallots
  • Ground or minced garlic (fresh)
  • Sea salt
  • Pepper

2. For yoghurt dips

Making your own yoghurt dip is a healthy, easily-made accompaniment to things like tortilla chips, pitta breads, raw or cooked vegetables, crackers and/or fish and meat products. If you’re looking to make your own yoghurt dip, don’t leave out the main ingredient – olive oil.

In addition to that, you’ll need: whole milk, Greek yoghurt, grated cucumber, salt, pepper, garlic powder and lemon juice – simple. There are plenty of other yoghurt dip recipes that you can enjoy, but don’t forget the staple oil addition.

3. A vine tomato accompaniment

If you’re partial to some delectable vine tomatoes that are fresh and packed with flavour, then there’s more than one way to enjoy them. Whether you enjoy them sliced up on a cheese sandwich or as a wonderful accompaniment to an otherwise boring salad, there’s another way in which you can experience the full taste and flavour of sliced tomatoes.

Choose to drizzle your olive oil over your freshly-sliced tomatoes, adding a splash of balsamic vinegar and a sprinkling of salt and pepper. For an extra fancy flourish, garnish your tomatoes with some basil leaves for good measure.

4. A serving with bread

Break and oil is a long-time staple on any dinner table, used usually as a starter or an appetiser to get the stomach ready for the main course. If you have a delicious loaf of fresh, crusty bread that’s light and airy in the middle, and you’re looking to make the most of the flavour it has to offer, then make up an olive oil and balsamic vinegar mix to dip the bread into.

Serve the oil in a small, shallow bowl or dish and then add the balsamic vinegar. If balsamic vinegar isn’t your thing, then you can add a pinch of salt to your oil along with other herbs and spices, including thyme, oregano and rosemary, to name just a few seasonings that make the perfect addition to an olive oil bread dip.

5. An addition to hummus

Olive oil can be added to hummus to provide a rich, delicious flavour. For an instant upgrade to your snacks or meal starters, this is the perfect ingredient to add to another plain dip. Once you’re done, you can eat your hummus with tortilla chips, pitta bread, carrot batons, cucumber sticks, celery and more. The hummus and vegetable pairings are never ending, as are your options when it comes to using olive oil in your general cooking.

6. To marinate cheese & olives

Cheese and olives makes a delicious, often underrated, starter for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re preparing food for yourself as a light snack or as a side dish to a Saturday evening dinner party, olive oil is perfect for marinating cheese cubes and green, black or even purple olives.

Feta is a seamless pairing with this sort of oil. But you should look to elevate the marinade by adding in some oregano, rosemary and even a sprinkling of chilli flakes for a delectable kick that will make you the talk of the dinner table.

7. For roasting vegetables

Of course, it wouldn’t be cooking oil unless it can be used for roasting. This oil is wonderful for roasting vegetables, more so than meats and other things. This is because vegetables often need to be seasoned to add flavour. It just so happens that olive oil can do just that, which makes it the perfect ingredient.

With its distinct flavour and smell, olive oil is the perfect ingredient to roasting vegetables in. All you’ll need to do to tickle your tastebuds further is to add seasonings. They can include things like salt, pepper, paprika and even herbs. Although this depends on the meal you’re cooking. Choose olive oil to roast your vegetables in for a delicious accompaniment to any dish.
